“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success” – Alexander Graham Bell
#1: Research the company and the role:
Familiarize yourself with the company's mission, values, products, services and projects, as well as the specific responsibilities and requirements of the role you are interviewing for. This will not only help you understand whether the company and role are a good fit for you, but it will also allow you to speak intelligently about the company and demonstrate your interest in the position during the interview. Furthermore, by understanding the company, you will be able to position key discussion points which highlight your alignment with the business' needs.
#2: Review the job description and requirements:
Carefully review the job description and requirements to understand what skills, experiences, and qualifications the employer is looking for. Think about how your own skills and experiences align with these requirements and be prepared to discuss specific examples of how you have demonstrated these skills in the past.
#3: Practice common interview questions:
Many interview questions are common and can be anticipated. Some examples include: "Tell me about yourself," "Why do you want to work for this company?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" Practice answering these questions out loud, either alone or with a friend or family member, to help you feel more comfortable and confident during the interview. Furthermore, it is also best to highlight tangible achievements you've achieved throughout your career, such as achieving profits above market average, savings for the business or completing a major project for the business.
#4: Prepare at least 3 questions to ask the interviewer:
It's important to have a few questions prepared to ask the interviewer. This shows that you are interested in the company and the role, and it gives you an opportunity to learn more about the company and the team you would be working with. Some good questions to ask include: "What do you enjoy most about working for this company?", "Can you describe the team I would be working with?" and "What does career progression look like within the business?".
